Nearly 100 strong 3rd graders from James B. Edwards Elementary made their way to Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
Over 12-hundred veterans are buried at the cemetery. The purpose of this event is to educate children to respect and remember the service these men and women contributed to our nation.
The children listen and learn from those who protected our freedom. Satisfaction felt for both young and old.
So as the kids dive in and get their flags there is a feeling from some veterans that an event like this can hopefully teach the younger generation what Memorial Day really means.
The third graders spent about 30 minutes placing flags and learning each step of the way. All while, realizing that Memorial Day is much more than just a day off.
It is an important way of reminding our children that they enjoy their freedoms because of those who fought and died to preserve our way of life.
A group of children whose potential has not yet been realized and paying respect to those we call heroes.
