SAVANNAH, GA (WSAV) – Authorities are investigating a shooting at Savannah State University (SSU) that sent a student to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 1 p.m., police responded to University Commons Building 32, a student housing complex, where shots fired were reported.

News 3 is told the victim was a male student who was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities say a suspect, who is not a student, has been arrested and transported to the Chatham County Jail.

No identities have been released at this time.

The university was placed on a brief lockdown, lifted at 2 p.m. Savannah Police responded to the scene Tuesday and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities say SSU police are also investigating an alleged armed robbery that happened Sunday around 12:30 a.m. at the same complex. One person sustained minor injuries.

No word on whether the incidents are connected.
