Police have arrested a 16-year-old student after a gun was found in that student’s pocket.
According to a press release from the Lumberton Police Department, on Thursday the Assistant Principal of Lumberton Senior High School received information that a student may have a weapon on campus. The Assistant Principal searched the student’s bag an discovered a SCCY 9mm semi-automatic handgun in his pocket.
The school resource officer was immediately notified and detained the student and took possession of the gun, which was unloaded at the time.
The student is being charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is a felony crime.
The student’s family has been notified of his arrest.
