A memorial basketball tournament was held Easter weekend to benefit the Stop the Violence Program’s educational scholarship.
The basketball tournament was held at Fairmont Middle School where 12 teams competed. Each team had to pay a $150 entrance fee. Tickets were $5 on Saturday and $3 on Sunday.
The Stop the Violence Program is a group dedicated to reducing violence in the community. It offers a support system for families and acts as a liaison between the community and law enforcement.
The scholarship fund is the program’s eighth initiative, with the goal of providing money to at least one student working for a degree or certification. Applicants have to complete an application, essay and an interview with the program’s board members.
