In an afternoon press conference Saturday, Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Florence.

The Governor said that state and local officials are all preparing for the possibility of Hurricane Florence to affect the state.

The storm is expected to strengthen to possibly become a major hurricane over the next few days.

South Carolina Emergency Management Division Director Kim Stenson said this likely will effect more than just the coast and has “the potential to be a full state event.”

Friday Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina declared a state of emergency for North Carolina.

When asked about the possibility of evacuations Governor McMaster said it is too early to make such decisions but he will make the call at the appropriate time.

In the event of an evacuation you can find your Hurricane Evacuation Zone here, as well as on the SC Emergency Manager App. There you can also find other resources and tips, like what to do in an evacuation and what to put in your Hurricane Kit.
