A Savannah man continues to recover after being shot in front of his home Monday morning.
Michael Gibson suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, which has affected his spine and vocal cords.
But on Friday, he showed everyone just how far his recovery is coming by popping a big question.
From his hospital bed, he wrote on a whiteboard and mouthed the words “will you marry me?” to his girlfriend Felicia Walker-Hayes.
And, of course, she said yes.
“I found out while we were talking that he was actually planning on doing this either this weekend or next weekend. He had it all planned out,” Walker-Hayes said. “The only hold up was my father. He wanted to ask from my hand in marriage from my dad.”
The community has been rallying around the couple since the shooting on Marsh Edge Lane. A GoFundMe page set up to help pay for Gibson’s hospital bills has over $13,000 donations so far.
“I’m staying strong from him, we’ve gotten a lot of support and that’s helping me get through,” said Gibson’s fiance.
Meanwhile, police are asking anyone who lives in the area to review their security cameras for any suspicious behavior from sundown Sunday to 2:00 a.m. Monday.
If you see anything, police urge you to contact the Savannah Police Department. Anonymous tips can also be forwarded to CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.
