A South Carolina high school assistant principal has been charged with having sex with a student.
The State reports that 44-year-old Dawn Diimler turned herself in Saturday morning to face a charge of sexual battery of a student.
Ashley Hunter, a spokeswoman for the city of Cayce, said Diimler is accused of having sex twice at Airport High School with a 19-year-old student in 2017. She was fired by district officials in Lexington County on Feb. 12.
The school district has previously said Diimler was fired after officials looked into allegations that she was having an unprofessional relationship with a student. District officials informed police of the possible criminal activity discovered during their probe.
Diimler’s attorney Deborah Barbier declined to comment in an email Sunday.
