A South Carolina town plans to sell a Reconstruction era church building it owns to an Episcopal congregation who has worshipped there for nearly a decade.
  
But volunteers who raised money and spent time restoring Union Church after the dilapidated building was sold to Port Royal in the early 1990s aren’t happy.
  
Port Royal officials told The Island Packet of Hilton Head they plan to sell the building to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for the appraised value of $160,000. The town would then use the money to restore an AME church it recently bought to be a visitors center.
  
The Historic Port Royal Foundation plans a last minute pitch to Town Council next month to ask the building be turned over to the foundation.
