The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a skull, found in Robeson County on December 11, as that of 24-year-old Varcy Locklear, of Pembroke.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement Wednesday evening on social media.
Officials say Locklear’s skull was found on Heritage Road in Rex.
Locklear was found dead on a train track in Enfield on October 30. The initial incident is being investigated by the Enfield Police Department and Pembroke Police Department.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office will also be involved in the joint investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office says, based on the investigation, the initial incident happened at the bridge in the area of Highway 20 and Rex Road. Locklear ‘appears to have been a stowaway on a train when he struck the bridge as he was traveling north bound’, according to the report.
The Associated Press says the Amtrak train he was on was traveling to New York from Charlotte, and was delayed for about 45 minutes as police investigated the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Major Damien McLean or Lt. Brandon Patterson at (910) 671-3100.
