DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCBD/WBTW) – A 23-year-old firefighter with the Cross Rural Fire Department was killed in a multi-car crash Wednesday afternoon.

The fatal collision happened on Jedburg Road and Wildgame Road just before 4:00 p.m.

Highway Patrol says a Hyundai traveling westbound drove left of center, striking a cement truck which was traveling eastbound. An SUV was hit by debris from the crash.

Officials say Katherine Dube of Summerville, driver of the Hyundai who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. Her two children were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles were uninjured in the crash.

An official with the Cross Rural Fire Department told WBTW’s Nexstar sister station WCBD that Dube  had been with them for about a month and a half and has been a volunteer with Ashley River Fire Department for years.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
