CHEROKEE Co., SC (WSPA) – A former Cherokee Co. man has been sentenced to 20 years after he admitted to sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, according to the solicitor’s office.
Arsenio L. Byars, 26, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He will serve 85 percent before he is eligible for release. He will also be added to the sex offender registry.
On Oct. 22, 2015 the victim told Greenville Co. elementary school staff that she had been sexually assaulted, according to the release.
The Greenville Co. Sheriff’s Office investigated and found out the assaults happened at multiple locations in Cherokee Co.
The girl described multiple sex acts that happened over almost three years.
Byars was arrested in 2016 and was using a Greenwood address at the time.
He had a previous convictions for second-degree harassment and trespassing, according to the report.
State Law Enforcement Division developed the case and it was prosecuted by Deputy Solicitor Kim Leskanic.
