GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – The warm feet of an Upstate 10-year-old are putting her on a bigger path.
Pressley Turner said it all started with a trip to Miracle Hill Ministries to interview her grandfather, who works there, for a school presentation.
“I asked – how could kids help,” said Pressley. “[He] Gave me this list that they needed for Christmas.”
She said she prayed about that list, and got an inspiration she took and ran with.
“I thought that God was telling me to choose socks,” she said. “I told my Mom and she said ‘yeah we can get some socks’ and I said ‘no I mean like all of the socks.’”
Her mom Joelle Turner said she wondered how she could help.
“I thought well how much would that cost me to fill in the blanks and how could we get people to pitch in,” said Joelle Turner.
Pressley wants to collect the 645 pairs of socks needed for Miracle Hill.
“What they need for Christmas to make sure the people staying there at the rescue mission and at Shepherd’s Gate had something Christmas morning,” her mom said.
They need more than 323 new pairs of adult men’s socks, 161 new pairs of adult women’s socks, and 161 new pairs of women’s fuzzy socks.
“I didn’t know she [Pressley] would take on such a big goal but I certainly didn’t want to hold her back,” said her mom. “I wanted her to know that if she feels like God’s leading her to do something, nothing’s too small.”
They’ve gotten 88 pairs so far with support from people they knew.
“I asked if they had warm feet, then they nodded their head and I said well a lot of people in Greenville don’t have warm feet,” said Pressley. “They don’t get warm feet like we do, and I feel like that’s not fair.”
It’s a simple need she wants fulfilled for those who can’t afford it.
They’re collecting monetary donations through a Facebook page and said people can drop socks off at the church, Fellowship Greenville at 3161 S Highway 14, Greenville, SC, starting next week.
