HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WNCN) — Family and friends are remembering the life of a South Carolina college student who died Saturday morning on Hilton Head Island.
According to the Furman University’s Facebook Page, Caroline Smith, a sophomore from Atlanta, died at an off-campus gathering on Enterprise Lane in Beaufort County.
The death is under investigation, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Bob Bromage.
The Island Packet reported a 911 call was dispatched for “cardiac arrest” soon after a “fall with injuries” call.
Elizabeth Davis, the President of Furman University in Greenville posted the message on social media.
Smith was a history and communication studies major and was a member of Kappe Delta sorority, where she was the vice president for membership.
Smith was a graduate of Marist School in Atlanta.
The varsity girl’s soccer team posted a message on Twitter about Smith:
What is one worth? Not sure but when I think of Caroline Smith, it is limitless. We lost a bright light yesterday & we will forever remember her for what she was – a smile, a heart, and a passion for life. Much love to the Smith family & know we are w/ you during this time of loss.
Davis wrote that counselors will be on hand at the school for grieving students. She also said memorial services are now being planned for Smith.
