SC boy taken to burn center may have done fire challenge

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Spartanburg City Fire Department officials said a 12-year-old boy was injured in a fire.

According to a Spartanburg fire marshal, crews were called to a fire at La Salle Court around noon on Tuesday.

The boy was flown to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment.

According to Spartanburg Fire Department’s Facebook post, the 12-year-old had severe burns over half of his body.

His condition is unknown at this time.

On Wednesday, Spartanburg City Fire Marshal Brad Hall said firefighters were told the child was possibly participating in a rubbing alcohol challenge, in which people rub alcohol on themselves and set themselves on fire.
