Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins announced the formation of a Cold Case/Missing Persons Unit in a press release on Tuesday.
The new unit will consist of “a team of experienced retired law enforcement officers,” according to the release. The officers are from various city, county, and state agencies and the unit will be managed through the Criminal Investigations Unit of the sheriff’s office.
The release says the follow people wil be members of the unit:
- Major Damien McLean, Chief of Criminal Investigations, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office
- Major Jimmy Maynor, retired from RCSO in 2003
- Detective Donnie Britt, retired from RCSO in 2007
- Former Police Chief Mike Stogner, retired from RCSO and Lumberton Police Department in 1999
- Captain Reggie Strickland, retired from RCSO in 2017
- Special Agent in Charge Trent Bullard, retired from the State Bureau of Investigation in 2016
- Assistant Special Agent in Charge Randy Johnson, retired in 2015
- Sheriff Kenneth Sealey, retired from RCSO in November 2018
“I cannot continue to allow the families of these victims continue to think their loved ones cases have fallen through the cracks. Their pain is unimaginable and I know they want closure one way or another,” Sheriff Wilkins said in the release. “I promise a concentrated effort to at least look over previous evidence and use today’s training and technology to attempt to bring closure. I can’t promise that anything will happen, but I can promise an effort on behalf of my staff and these loyal volunteer seasoned investigators with a combined total of over 200 years experience.”
