A Robeson County elementary school student received a birthday surprise from his Navy mom on Wednesday.

Dartanian Davis, a first-grade student at Green Grove Elementary School who turned 7 on Saturday, was surprised by his mother, Tasha Locklear, during school on Wednesday, according to a press release from Public Schools of Robeson County.

Locklear has been deployed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt in San Diego, California for the past five months, says the release. She will be home for nine days.

Locklear’s three children live in Robeson County with grandparents as she serves her 24th year in the Navy, the release also says. Davis’ first words to his mother were “you tricked me, you weren’t supposed to be home until May, but can I go home with you?”

“It means the world to me that he is excited to see me because this is the most excited he has ever been to see me. I have never surprised him like this before. It meant the world to come home and do this for him,” said Locklear in the release.
