A convicted felon recently released from prison for a manslaughter charge, has been arrested again.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says Maurice Ashofrd of Red Springs surrended to investigators at the Red Springs Police Department Wednesday.
He’s charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, second degree kidnapping and discharging a weapon within an enclosure to incite fear.
Ashford was given a $60,000 secured bond for the assault incident. He was also charged with parole violation and was not given a bond for that, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
The assault charges are related to a shooting that happened on Sunday, at a home on Cabinet Shop Road in Rowland.
We’re told the parole violation is related to a homicide that happened on June 1, 2013 in Red Springs. In September of 2015, officials say Ashford pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Alex Jones. He was sentenced to 59 to 83 months in prison, and released on June 5, 2018.
