Rescued sea turtles return to ocean in Folly Beach

Three rescued sea turtles were returned to the ocean on Wednesday. 

Crews from the South Carolina Aquarium released Gary, Buckbeak and Farrah back into the ocean at Folly Beach County Park.

According to a post on the aquarium’s Facebook page, Gary is a Loggerhead sea turtle and Buckbeak and Farrah are Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles. 

A video posted to the SC Aquarium’s Facebook page details Gary’s journey with the aquarium. Gary was brought to the aquarium in May 2017 with Debilitated Turtle Syndrome after being rescued from an oyster bed on Pawleys Island.

The South Carolina Aquarium also posted video from the release of the turtles. This release was the last public release of the year.

S.C.U.T.E., or the South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts, wished Gary the best on his new journey in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
