LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – A portion of Interstate 95 in Lumberton is closed because of flooding from Hurricane Florence, state officials report.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says I-95 is closed from exit 13 at Hwy. 74 to exit 22 at Fayetteville Rd., due to flooding related to Hurricane Florence. The interstate is closed in both directions and state officials say the closure is expected through Sept. 26.

I-95 north and southbound in Dillon County is also closed.

As the Lumber River rises, flooding in Lumberton is only expected to worsen. StormTracker13 Chief Meteorologist Frank Johnson says the river is projected to break the record set by Hurricane Matthew flooding when it crests at 24.6′ by Sunday night.
