The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the search for a man accused of robbing a school bus driver at gunpoint.
The incident happened around 4:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the suspect, Michael Darrell Smith, aka ‘Pooh Daddy’, reportedly approached a female bus driver at Elizabethtown Middle School in Bladen County and told her that he and another woman had run out of gas and asked if she would take them to get more gas. The woman declined, saying she had to start her bus route, according to deputies.
The bus driver reported that Smith later confronted her, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to give him her personal car. Both suspects then got into the vehicle and drove off.
The victim was not harmed.
Warrants were obtained Wednesday for Smith, who lives in Fayetteville. His upcoming charges include robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker said in a press release that Smith and the vehicle he stole were last seen in the Red Springs area of Robeson County.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins posted on his Facebook page, asking residents in some neighborhoods to help in locating the dangerous suspect.
Sheriff Wilkins said Smith should be considered armed and dangerous.
