Pembroke police are warning people of a kidnapping scam.
“Please be aware that there is a kidnapping scam going on,” says a post on the Pembroke Police Department’s Facebook page. “People have received calls from a local number (910-225-3008) and are being told that their family members have been kidnapped and requests a certain amount of money to be delivered to a certain location.”
“They are asking questions such as personal and clothing description and possibly vehicle description and their location,” the post also says. “Do not give them any of this information. If you can try to contact your family and make sure they are alright.”
“If you suspect that this is not a scam, please contact the Pembroke Police Department (910-521-4333) or your local law enforcement agency,” the post adds.
