The Pembroke Police Department is investigating a woman’s death after someone found her body Thursday afternoon.

The police department receive a call around 3 p.m. on Thursday about a body found in a wooded area near the intersection of 7th Street and Main Street, according to a press release from the department. After the responding officer confirmed the location of the body an investigation began.

Pembroke Police contacted the NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) for assistance, and the investigation revealed the body was female.  The investigation also resulted in the development of a person of interest in the woman’s death, according to the press release.

“Pembroke Police Department along with SBI agents have conducted checks of several residences in an attempt to locate the person of interest,” the release stated.

The name of the victim nor details about how she died are not released until those details are confirmed by the NC Medical Examiner’s Office.
