COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WBTW) — Investigators say they found a man dead inside his South Carolina home shortly after finding an item from a missing 6-year-old girl inside his trash can.
Faye Marie Swetlik disappeared Monday while playing in her front yard after getting off the school bus in Cayce.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide, although details about how she died have not been released.
Cayce police say the girl’s body was found Thursday in the woods, and police think it was put there after investigators found the evidence inside the trash can of a neighbor, 30-year-old Coty Scott Taylor.
Authorities on Friday released audio of the 911 call Faye Swetlik’s mother made the afternoon she went missing. Some excerpts from the call:
Dispatcher: “Tell me exactly what’s happening.”
Selina Collins: “I can’t find my daughter. She was playing outside and now I can’t find her.”
….
Selina Collins: “I checked all the houses in my neighborhood and anybody that’s actually answered – they’re out looking for her, too.”
Officials are expected to reveal more information about how Swetlik and Taylor died over the weekend.

CAYCE, SC (WSPA) – Cayce Department of Public Safety officials will be holding a news conference this morning to give an update on the investigation into the death of 6-year-old Faye Swetlik.
On Thursday, Cayce Department of Public Safety’s Director Byron Snellgrove confirmed that Swetlik’s body was found Thursday.
Snellgrove said a man’s body was also found in the Churchill Heights neighborhood.
On Friday, officials said a case briefing would be held at Trinity Baptist Church.
