Savannah Police Department (SPD) says one officer has died after a shooting Saturday night on Bull Street.

Police say it started at 8 p.m. when officers responded to follow-up on a previous robbery call. When police went up to a car with the suspect inside, the shooting happened.

SPD would not confirm who shot first.

Two SPD officers were rushed to the hospital. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp identified the officer killed as Sgt. Kelvin Ansari. He was a 10-year veteran of the department and served in the U.S. Army for 20 years before joining the police department.

A second officer was treated and released from the hospital.

Police say the suspect was also taken to the hospital. The condition of the suspect is still unknown.

The Georgia Bureau fo Investigations will lead the investigation.
