North Carolina restaurant serves tarantula burger part of ‘exotic meat month’

DURHAM, NC (WBTW) – A restaurant in North Carolina is asking people if they’re brave enough to take the tarantula challenge.

Bull City Burger and Brewery in Durham is in the midst of its sixth-annual Exotic Meat Month promotion, and one of the menu items: Tarantula Burger.

According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the Tarantula Burger is a 100 percent North Carolina pasture-raised beef patty, gruyere cheese, and spicy chili sauce, topped with an oven-roasted tarantula on a house-baked bun. The burger is $30.

Customers brave enough to scarf down the hairy spider get a t-shirt to prove their venture.

Other exotic meats featured during the promotion include alligator, camel, turtle, reindeer, goat, and bug-topped guacamole burgers. For diners who just can’t get enough of the creative culinary options, finish off your meal with a scoop of homemade ice cream topped with chocolate-covered bugs.

The Tarantula Challenge is by lottery. Customers interested in giving the burger a try should visit the restaurant on East Parrish Street in Durham to put their name in the running.
