A portion of a train came off the tracks early Saturday morning in Robeson County.

According to a press release from the Town of Pembroke, the derailment happened just after midnight when the train came to a stop on the tracks running alongside Union Chapel Road. the Town of Pembroke Fire Department was informed by the train’s conductor that there was a derailment in the middle of the train.

After an investigation, they found that the tracks were not damaged and the derailment was caused by an equipment failure on a car hauling railroad ties. The wheelbase on the rear of that car had come off the tracks, however, the car was still upright and stable.

The railroad crossings at Third Street, Second Street, and Corinth Road were blocked by the train.

At 5 A.M. crews from CSX and Cranemasters arrived to repair and reconnect the affected car. At 8 A.M the train was able to get moving again.

No one was injured by the derailment.
