RALEIGH, N.C. (AP/WNCN) – North Carolina election board officials have set Sept. 10 as the date for the congressional contest still vacant after ballot fraud-tainted the earlier race.
The candidate filing period for North Carolina District 9 is between March 11 and 15.
The primary election is set for May 14.
The state board on Monday chose the date for the new election in the 9th congressional district race.
The board decided last month that a new election was needed. It did so after hearing evidence that tended to show a political operative working for Republican candidate Mark Harris hired people to collect mail-in ballots. That left votes vulnerable to being changed or discarded.
It’s illegal in North Carolina to have anyone other than a voter or immediate family member handle a ballot.
Democrat Dan McCready is running again in the new election, but Harris isn’t.
