MAXTON, NC (WBTW) – Four people died in a head-on crash in Robeson County Thursday night, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Philip Collins said the crash was reported at 8:03 p.m. Thursday. He said a Kia car was headed west on U.S. Hwy. 501 about six miles south of Maxton when that car crossed the center line and hit a Ford car head-on. The Kia then went off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and caught fire, Collins said. The Ford car remained in the road.
All three people in the Kia died, Collins said. Their bodies were sent for autopsies at the state Medical Examiner’s Office. On Wednesday, NC Highway Patrol identified the driver as 35-year old Cathryn Hall of Roanoke Rapids Virginia and also revealed that her 10-year-old and 13-year-old daughters died in the crash.
The driver of the Ford car was also killed. Collins said that driver was identified as Christopher George Locklear, 44, of Laurinburg. The passenger in the car was taken by air to McLeod hospital in Florence, Collins said.
Collins said, the crash was investigated by Trooper M.J. Miles, and according to his report it is believed the Kia not only crossed the center line but was also exceeding the speed limit.
