LENOIR, N.C. (AP) – A sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina has been shot and wounded during a traffic stop.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near Lenoir.
The deputy has been flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment. There was no word on his condition. His name has not been released. He has been with the department just over a year.
The sheriff’s department said the officer was struck just below his bullet-proof vest.
The sheriff’s department is looking for the person who shot the officer. It’s believed the suspect left in a blue Toyota sedan.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and other local law enforcement agencies are working to find the suspect and determine a motive for the shooting.
