WHITEVILLE, NC (WBTW) – A body found in Columbus County while Hurricane Florence passed through has now been identified as that of a Robeson County man who was reported missing.
The NC Medical Examiner identified the dead man as 21-year-old Carlos David Alfonso Jr. He had been reported missing from the Orrum area of Robeson County. A press release from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said Alfonso was the victim of a homicide, but no other details were included.
According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, someone reported a body located in the 8900 block of Joe Brown Hwy. between Chadbourn and Bladenboro, near the Bladen County line. Deputies responded, and the body was later transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy where the body was identified.
Alfonso had last been seen on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Sun Do gas station on Old Boardman Road at U.S. Hwy. 74. The gas station has an Evergreen address but is in Boardman in Columbus County, just east of the Robeson County line.
Anyone with information about Alfonso’s whereabouts from Sept. 13 to Sept. 16 is asked to contact Detective Parker at the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office at 910-640-6629.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office shared a missing person flyer created by The Aware Foundation. The flyer included information for contacting the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office with any details about Alfonso because he was reported missing in Robeson County. However, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office has never publicly released details of the case or requested help from the public.
