Missing infant girl, mom separated and in danger, NC officials say

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN/WBTW) — Authorities are searching three counties for a missing infant and her mother after they were reported missing Thursday, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the case and collecting information while they search for “a Hispanic female known as April Morrison,” they said.

Morrison is known to have a transient lifestyle. She speaks both English and Spanish. She may have a New Jersey or New York accent.

Lt. Jessica Sadovnikov said Morrison is believed to have been brought into North Carolina against her will and then taken out of North Carolina against her will.

“We believe she’s in danger because of the lifestyle she’s living in. According to the witness statements and that information we cannot disclose at this time, we do believe that she is involved in a transient lifestyle,” Sadovnikov also said. “That she was brought to North Carolina, possibly against her will and it is possible that she’s been removed from the state of North Carolina against her will.”

Morrison is believed to have given birth on Jan. 10. Morrison and the child have been separated,  Sadovnikov said.

The female infant, whose alias is believed to be Leigh Ann Morrison, is in danger.

“The child is believed to be in danger and the child is believed to be in imminent risk for safety purposes,” said Sadovnikov.

The child was last seen in Laurinburg before the child was taken to Rockingham.

Sadovnikov said two males then took the infant to Cumberland County.

Morrison was believed to be staying in motels or hotels in Richmond County, Scotland County and Fayetteville.

A sketch artist is working on an image of Morrison. Sadovnikov said that sketch is expected to be released later Friday.

“We know for a fact that the mother and the child have been separated, and we’re seeking all members of the public to be vigilant. Currently we’re working with witnesses and a sketch artist to produce a sketch of what mom actually looks like and we’re looking to have that available to the general public no later than 6 to 7 pm this day,” Sadovnikov added.

Authorities ask that if you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Morrison or her child, that you contact the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (910) 266-4332 extension 4. Callers may remain anonymous.
