GREENVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A Simpsonville woman was found dead not far from her home after she and her young grandson were reported missing.
Authorities said Bernett King and her 3-year-old grandson Carter Bernhagen took a golf cart to a creek on Wednesday morning. They were reported missing later that day.
Greenville County deputies used a helicopter and dogs in their search for the woman and child.
Deputies discovered the golf cart in the Reedy River.
Carter was found safe near his deceased grandmother, according to a coroner’s office report.
The coroner said the wrecked golf cart was in a wooded area along Sullivan Road.
King, 60, lived nearby.
Her death remains under investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled Thursday.
Carter has been returned to his family.
