LAURENS CO., SC (WSPA) – Deputies say they have charged two people in connection with burglaries at hunting lodges in Laurens County.
24-year-old Justin Hunter Davis is charged with six counts of Burglary, three counts of Grand Larceny, two counts of Petit Larceny, and Trafficking in Methamphetamine.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a hunting lodge on Highway 72 East near Clinton in reference to a burglary on March 10.
Investigators say nearly $40,000 with of property was taken, including ATVs, tools, a trailer, and even a shower.
On March 11, deputies received information that Davis was in possession of a stolen ATV and responded to his home on Sparrow Road in Clinton.
Deputies searched the home and found most of the property that was stolen from the hunting lodge as well as items from several other burglaries. Investigators say they also found more than 10 grams of methamphetamine.
The Sheriff’s Office says they responded to another hunting lodge burglary on Lake Road in Clinton on March 18.
Deputies say items taken from that lodge were also found in the suspect’s home but had not yet been reported stolen when they searched his property.
Davis was arrested at a home in Newberry County, according to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. Newberry County deputies also recovered a stolen ATV in that county.
42-year-old Franklin Lee Spelts, Jr. was also arrested and was charged with Receiving Stolen Goods in connection with the burglaries.
“I’m extremely pleased with the hard work of the men and women of this Sheriff’s Office,” said Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds. “They work diligently every day to locate and return stolen property back to its rightful owners. Mr. Davis is a thug who preys on hard-working and law-abiding citizens because he’s too lazy to work and is on drugs.”
