GENESEO, NY (WROC-TV) – A manhunt is underway in New York for a Wilmington, NC man who reportedly pulled a gun on a Geneseo police officer.
Police say 49-year-old David Clyde Morgan, of Wilmington, NC, pulled a gun on the officer during a traffic stop around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Sheriff Tom Dougherty says it appears Morgan stepped out of his vehicle and pointed a gun at the Geneseo police officer, and that officer fired his gun. The sheriff stresses that information is very preliminary, and they are still gathering more details through their investigation.
Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputies and NY State Police began searching a cornfield along Rt. 63 in Geneseo, about 35 miles south of Rochester, for Morgan. A helicopter is also assisting the investigation.
The Livingston County courthouse was placed under lockdown shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Deputies say Morgan does have a violent past and is considered armed and dangerous.
A woman was also in the car with Morgan. She attempted to run from the vehicle during the traffic stop, according to deputies, but was quickly captured and is being questioned.
Morgan was last seen in jeans and a long-sleeve gray shirt with a gray baseball hat.
Those living in the Geneseo, NY area are being asked to lock their doors and stay inside while an investigation continues.
