DICKSON COUNTY, TN (WKRN) – The man suspected of killing a deputy in Tennessee earlier this week has been taken into custody, according to the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office.

A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office reads, “Mr. Wiggins is in custody!!!!!!!”

The manhunt continued Friday morning for the man wanted for killing a Dickson County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed in the line-of-duty.

Accused gunman Steven Wiggins continues to evade capture after Sergeant Daniel Baker was shot and killed Wednesday while responding to a report of a suspicious car on Sam Vineyard Road.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said received more than 139 tips in the case. All the tips are being investigated.

Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe and Jason Locke of the TBI admitted investigators did’t know where Wiggins was, but they followed every lead and investigated every tip.

Complicating the manhunt was that Wiggins could look very different than old pictures. Five photos were shared publicly. The newest photo released depicted Wiggins in a black shirt and ball cap at a local Walmart on Tuesday night.

The State Medical Examiner said Baker was shot multiple times. And the sheriff called a video from the crime scene “disturbing.”

Baker was found dead inside his patrol car about two or three miles away from the initial scene. The deputy’s GPS system was used to locate his patrol car after there had not been any contact with him.

Video evidence and other elements from the scene helped the TBI identify Wiggins as a suspect. The TBI said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sheriff Bledsoe referred to Baker as “one of the best.”

“We’re going to weather the storm and we’re going to get through it and we’re going to be a better county for it… it won’t stop us. It’s going to strengthen our resolve,” he said.
