PELZER, SC (WBTW) – A man serving a life sentence for a Myrtle Beach murder was killed in fight at South Carolina prison, according to the SC Department of Corrections.  

William Edward Tillman, 54, is charged with murder in the death of Carl Andrew Pollen, Jr., 46, according to a press release from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Tillman allegedly struck Pollen “multiple times on the head with his foot during a fight in the cell” around 2 a.m. on April 29, 2019.

According to the release, Pollen was also strangled with a bed sheet, and died about an hour later.

Tillman and Pollen were roommates at Perry Correctional Institution in Pelzer, SC.

Back in 1999, Pollen killed Clara Payne, who owned the Outrigger Motel.

Pollen had been in prison since he pleaded guilty to her murder in 2002.

Pollen worked for Payne, who was beaten and stabbed to death during a robbery.
