LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – After a three- week long trial, Marques Brown was convicted and sentenced for killing a Lumberton police officer in 2012 while the officer was trying to serve an arrest warrant.
Robeson County District Attorney Johnson Britt says Brown was convicted of second degree murder, possession of a weapon by a felon and possession with intent to distribute and sell marijuana on Monday,
Brown was sentenced Monday evening to a minimum of 279 months imprisonment and a maximum of 357 months behind bars on all three charges. The second degree murder charge alone carried a minimum penalty of 258 months and a maximum of 322 months.
Jury selection for the trial began nearly three weeks ago. Closing arguments were delivered Monday in court.
