CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) — The man accused of kidnapping a 4-year-old girl from Johns Island and abusing her mother will face a judge Friday morning.

Thomas Lawton Evans Jr., 37, of Boiling Springs, is facing a number of charges, including kidnapping involving a person under the age of 18, transportation of a minor to engage in sexual activity, and aggravated sexual abuse of a person under the age of twelve.

Evans is accused of kidnapping Heidi Todd, 4, and attacking the girl’s mother on Feb. 13 as she returned to her Johns Island home with three of her children. He reportedly abducted Heidi and left the other children behind.

Heidi was located the next day in Alabama. Evans was arrested several hours later driving a stolen car in Mississippi.

WCBD, sisters station to News13, captured images of Evans as he was being transported from the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center to the Federal Courthouse in downtown Charleston for an 11 a.m. arraignment. 

Evans’ original arraignment date was set for March 27 at 9:45 a.m. in downtown Charleston. The date was moved up to Friday, March 16. 

Evans also faces several charges in state court.
