A Lumberton police officer has died after responding to a traffic crash on I-95 Saturday morning.
While investigating a crash on the I-95 Northbound lane near exit 22, Officer Jason Quick was hit by a vehicle around 6:50 a.m. Saturday.
According to Sgt. Michel Baker with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Officer Quick was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes and was struck by a passing 2017 Hyundai. The driver of that car is identified as Kadejera Inman of Fairmont.
Other Lumberton Police officers at the scene along with members of the Lumberton Fire Department immediately began helping Officer Quick.
Quick was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center where he died. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Traffic on I-95 northbound was being redirected around the site of the crash from exit 20 to exit 22. The scene is now clear and traffic has returned to normal.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Robeson County District Attorney’s office are investigating.
Major Tommy Barnes Lumberton Police Department’s Deputy Chief of Police, tells us “Officer Quick has been with the Lumberton PD for about a year and a half, he went to basic law enforcement training and graduated in April 2017, and we hired him in June 2017, and he did a good job. He had a great attitude, and was just a good person”
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Officer Jason Quick,” Capt. Terry Parker said in a press release.
