Lumberton man wanted in connection with NC hit-and-run

A Lumberton man is wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in North Carolina.

CBS affiliate WWAY reports that Wilmington police are looking for 28-year-old Michael Todd Bommarito in connection with the hit-and-run crash.

Bommarito allegedly ran a red light, according to WWAY. On Saturday afternoon, Wilmington police responded to the intersection of 3rd and Dawson Streets. His charges reportedly include failure to stop at a red light, hit and run, and driving with a revoked license.

A spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department said in a press release “while illegally crossing the intersection, a vehicle in on-coming traffic struck Bommarito, who then veered off the road, onto the sidewalk before returning to the road and driving away,” according to WWAY. Police in Wilmington said the victim was a woman from Whiteville, who was on her way to a local hospital to see her husband.

The woman reportedly suffered minor injuries and about $5,000 in damages to her car, WWAY adds. The crash was caught on a traffic camera and Wilmington police said investigators were able to use the frame-by-frame pictures to discover who the vehicle was registered to. The vehicle was reportedly registered to an independent dealership located in Robeson County and Bommarito reportedly bought the car from the dealership.

If you have information about Bommarito’s location, you are asked to call Wilmington police at 910-343-3609.
