LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – A weekend shooting in Lumberton landed one man in the hospital and another in jail, police say.

Captain Terry Parker with the Lumberton Police Department says officers were called to the area of 103 Carolina Avenue Friday evening around 7:30 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arriving, officers found Demarreon McDaniel, 25, of Lumberton attempting to run from the scene.

McDaniel attempted to throw a handgun down, confirms Capt. Parker, but he was captured by police and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury. McDaniel is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.

The victim was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital. He is expected to be ok, police say.
