The Lumberton Police Department arrested a man who, they say, attempted to rob another man with a knife.

Captain Terry W. Parker, with the department, says on Monday around 8:20 p.m., a man attempted to rob another man with a knife in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Walmart located at 2985 Elizabethtown Road.

Parker also says the victim, identified as 35-year-old Manuel Martinez, received a cut on his hand. Martinez was offered medical treatment once Lumberton police officers arrived on the scene and he refused treatment.

Brian Hardin, 44, of Singletary Road in Lumberton, was arrested on Thursday, according to Parker. Hardin is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held in the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office on other pending charges. His bond is set at $75,000.
