LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Lumberton Councilman John “Big Wayne” Robinson has passed away, according to Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.
Sheriff Wilkins posted on Friday that Robinson had been having health issues for a while.
“He represented Precinct 2 and the city honorably and was a true advocate for its citizens,” Wilkins posted on his Facebook page. “Prayers for his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Wilkins said Robinson continued to do his best as a councilman despite his health issues. “He has helped many citizens throughout this county even pulling people from ditches with his wrecker service for free during the hurricanes,” he wrote.
“I am proud to have served with Big Wayne on city council and he will be missed.”
