NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The mother that was arrested in connection to the death of her child waived her right to a bond hearing.
Wednesday afternoon, North Charleston investigators arrested the mother of a deceased infant.
Shortly after 4:00pm on Tuesday, officers responded to a home on Remount road in reference to an injured and unresponsive baby boy. He was taken to Trident Medical Center, where he later died.
Tamika Williams, the boy’s mother is charged with Homicide by Child Abuse.
The incident report states that deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of Remount Road and noticed the infant had blood on its face, the ground, and in the bassinet next to the baby.
Authorities observed a toddler asleep on another chair in the living room, the report added.
After several EMS units arrived including an ambulance, the infant was transported to Trident Hospital, according to the incident report.
Williams stated in the incident report that her and the husband fell asleep in the chairs in the living room and when they woke up that is when they went to their room in the rear of the apartment, leaving the toddler with the infant.
The report stated when the husband when to turn off the AC, that is when he noticed blood on the bassinet. They did not hear any noises, crying, or see anything as to what happened. The report states that the mother believes the toddler attempted to pick up the infant and dropped him because the toddler has tried to hold the baby several times before that.
Detectives on scene noticed several knots on the toddler’s head and requested that Department of Social Services respond to MUSC to evaluate the toddler.
After the investigation concluded, Charleston County DSS arrived back at the incident location to arrange a family placement of the toddler during their investigation, according to the report.
