SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A former Fountain Inn Police officer will avoid jail time with a plea deal.
Investigators said the officer, Adam Kyle Snelgrove, 33, had sex with a 15-year-old girl in his patrol car.
In 2016, Snelgrove posted $25,000 bond, in connection to charges related to sexual activity with the teenage girl.
The investigation began when the Fountain Inn Police Chief called state agents to investigate.
We now know that Snelgrove will serve three years probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and misconduct in office.
Spartanburg attorney Ken Anthony, with Anthony Law Firm, did not work on this case, but spoke with 7News about how that may have happened.
“It goes back to what can be proven in a case, and these cases are often difficult because, particularly when it involves a young child, who may not be able to communicate, may not be able to describe everything in detail, what happened,” Anthony said.
Arrest warrants said that Selgrove had sexual relations with a young girl in his patrol car while on duty.
The warrants also stated that the former police officer kissed, hugged and felt the victim at Frankie’s Fun Park.
Investigators said it all happened between May and November of 2012.
Anthony said a plea deal worked down to two misdemeanors, likely kept Snellgrove out of jail.
“A lesser possible jail sentence a lesser fine then a felony and usually winds up with no jail time and usually some kind of a fine for a misdemeanor or some kind of probationary sentence,” Anthony said.
7News reached out to Fountain Inn’s Police chief and the city manager for comment, they referred us to the attorney representing them. We reached out, but haven’t heard back.
