MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCBD/WBTW) – Two firefighters were taken to Trident Medical Center after suffering injuries while working to extinguish a large blaze at a home in Moncks Corner.

According to the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Dept., crews were dispatched at a 2nd alarm fire around 10:30 a.m. along the 200 block of Big Nick Lane.

Upon arrival, crews reported seeing heavy fire which had fully engulfed a three-story home.

As crews worked to put out the flames, the front of the home collapsed, trapping two fire fighters with the Whitesville Fire Department. Both firemen were safely removed and taken to the hospital for treatment.

A county spokesperson said one of the firefighters is expected to go into surgery for a broken ankle while the other should be released from the hospital shortly.

Later, a firefighter with Moncks Corner Fire Department was taken to the hospital for burns.

News13’s sister station WCBD was told it took about an hour to contain the five-alarm fire.

In all, 14 fire departments responded to the blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.
