SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Some fruit in Georgia could be contaminated with Listeria.

The FDA issued a recall on peaches, plums and nectarines sold in stores throughout Georgia.

Georgia was named one of seven states affected by the potential contaimination.

“It’s scary . . . so it would be something to look out for now especially if that’s the case. That’s nothing to play with,” said Brian Riddle, a frequent produce shopper in Savannah.

ALDI stores in Georgia recieved the supply of fresh fruit that could be contaminated.

The FDA urges consumers to return their produce for a full refund.

“You definitley wanna take care of yourself. You definitely want to eat healthy, but it’s another thing to not pay attention to what you’re eating and it can end up affecting your health adversely,” said Riddle.

According to the FDA, Listeria can cause potentially fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with a weaked immune system. Healthier individuals may suffer short-term symptoms if exposed to Listeria like high fever, nausea, abdominal pain, severre headache, etc.

The FDA also says Listeria can cause stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women.
