Elderly Robeson County woman shot man she found in her storage building

A Robeson County woman shot a man several times after finding him in her storage building.

A press release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and Major Crimes investigators were called to a residence in the 5000 block of East Great Marsh Church Road in St. Pauls around 6:40 p.m. on Friday for a report of a person shot. 39-year-old James Dority, of St. Pauls, was found shot multiple times.

The owner of the residence, a 68-year-old woman, came home and heard a noise inside her storage building, according to the release. She walked up to her storage building, opened the door, and found Dority standing inside.

The woman shot Dority five times after he moved “towards her in an aggressive manner,” the release states. The woman told law enforcement she shot Dority because “he was lunging toward her.”

Dority was taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries don’t appear to be life threatening.

The identity of the woman will not be published, according to the release.

An investigation is ongoing.
