GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Two East Carolina University students killed in a South Carolina crash are being remembered.
The crash happened Friday afternoon.
Shea Crothers, 20, of Charlotte and James ‘Beau’ Stanley, 18, of Sneads Ferry lost their lives.
“She was just the type of person that was always positive, sweet, caring, always had a smile on her face,” said Justin Fleites.
He remembers his childhood friend Shea Crothers. The two grew up together in New Jersey.
“It’s crazy how things can happen so fast you never think it’s going to happen to you or someone you know and when it does it’s just shocking,” he said.
Crothers and Stanley died in a car crash in South Carolina Friday. Both were students at ECU and members of the greek community. They were heading to a fraternity formal event which is very common for students during this time of the year.
“The possibility of something like that happening, it just hits really hard knowing anything can happen to any of them it can affect anybody on campus,” said ECU student, David Chambers.
Stanley had just joined a fraternity at ECU.
“He was a goofball. There was never a dull moment when he was around no one could ever say that he didn’t make them smile,” said Brittany Silance, Stanley’s friend.
Silance was classmates with Stanley at Dixon High School in Onslow County, his friends and family call him Beau.
Silance said her favorite memory of Stanley brings her comfort now that he’s gone. “When he got saved on the altar, and that should bring peace and relief to everyone’s heart that he’s not suffering,” she said.
Fleites and Silance said the tragic accident puts life into perspective for them.
“Hug your loved ones, tell them that you love them. You never know what could happen, each day of life that you’re given is very very special,” said Fleites.
