Duke Energy costumers could have their bills going up by as much as 12 percent.

But you’ll soon have a chance to voice your concerns about the increase.

The proposal would increase the basic facilities charge by more than three times what it is now, going from $8 to $28.

The rate per kilowatt will go down slightly.

Some homeowners say it isn’t fair.

“Tripling that flat rate that has nothing to do with how much energy I use. If I try to be energy efficient that doesn’t matter to them, they’re just going to get their money,” says Matt Wright.

You can voice your concerns at one of three public hearings next month.
